Adrian Cervantes Mendez is a Mexican-American Intermedia artist in Eugene, Oregon, studying Music History and Culture at the University Of Oregon. His work takes on many mediums, exploring the relationship between humans and technology and his complex relationships with culture, the internet, music, and visual art. Many of his creations confront the fractal tension between the visual and auditory arts, with “paintings” having instructions to be performed by sound-producing technology and/or humans.

With a keen interest in bootlegging, copying, and parody (especially as a transformative process for culture), Adrian incorporates found and/or discarded materials and childhood objects into his work, exploring the archaeology of urbanization and wrestling with consumption and nostalgia. These materials sometimes take the physical form of cardboard and plastic or the aural form of samples from popular or niche media he experienced growing up.

His works often employ utilizing and taking advantage of algorithms in a perceptive or imperceptive way, exploring our continuous interfacing with these technologies.

Adrian serves as the secretary on the board of directors for the Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble, a new music ensemble performing music by underrepresented composers. The Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble started its annual New Music Festival in 2022, with Adrian helping to spearhead the festival. Adrian is also an active performer within the ensemble.

Adrian also plays and performs as a classically trained cellist, focusing on contemporary or modern compositions.
